2004 SL500

Hi,

I have a 2004 SL500 (recently purchased)and a couple of the buttons are damaged to the switch in front of roof opening switch.

1. the tow away deactivate button
2. vehicle level switch

can these be replaced with-out changing the whole unit?

Mercedes don't have them, I have looked on line and ebay, and they all only have 3no active buttons, on mine all 5 are in use.

regards

Andy

this (fully loaded version) is not common in the US as few came with folding mirrors and fewer (none?) came with IMS

Both of the button covers you need should be on all US models ... it is not unusual to find someone with one of these complete units that has a broken miiror adjuster (that should be available for a fair price)

or, there are more than a few (fully loaded like yours) listed on EBAY under part number A2308209810
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...09810&_sacat=0

Hope that helps,

I can't say for sure that they do pop off , but had the impression they would.

I would not be too sure they pop off.

On some Mercedes switch clusters like this, the buttons are all molded as one part with plastic "hinges". Unused buttons have a small plastic "bridge " holding it firm.

Buttons that are not in use, can be freed by cutting these small bridges in the molding.

I don't know about these buttons, but this was the case for SLK R171 center console buttons around the gear selector. What it meant was you could add switches to blank locations by inserting a small tactile switch to the pcb, and cutting a bridge tab on the button molding.

I won't disagree that some things are not possible to dis-associate from adjoining components ... but being that this same switch assembly had a variety of configurations (depending on which buttons were active/labeled), it would surprise me if these button faces were not individually installed/replaceable (getting them apart without damaging them might be another issue however).

Here is an ebay listing for a switch assembly with the actuator section separated ... were I the OP, I might ask the seller for a couple pictures of the other side of the top piece and that may shed some more light on this.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris,

I contacted the sellers from your previous email. They requested VIN number which I sent. They came back saying not the correct unit and gave me part number to look for.

I will try and get a picture of the back of the switches and let you know for future reference.

regards
