Cool How do I check tranny fluid level w/ MB STAR C3? DAS XWSAPI.exe not found? Maybe STAR

How do I check tranny fluid level w/ MB STAR C3? DAS XWSAPI.exe not found? Maybe STAR UTILITIES?

I have a used 2014 issue MB STAR C3 diagnostics system with Multiplexor installed on a Dell Latitude D630 PC. I use DAS to maintain my 2004 SL500. There are desktop shortcuts to DAS, WIS, STAR UTILITIES, StarFinder, System, drivethelife6, SDMEDIA, EPC, Support Tool, Star Browser, Xentry, EWA net, PL68, XENTRY AKT, info, TeamViewer.exe, control Panel, Alcohol 120%, SD EXPLORER, My Computer.

Can I find and copy XWSAPI.exe to a DAS directory? When I use DAS to try to check tranny fluid level, a message pops up: Warning (11.0) file WSAPI.EXE not found, launch is aborted. Is that executable file on the computer, or available online perhaps?

Does STARUTILITIES use the multiplexor? Is there one of the above apps that will check the transmission fluid level?

Nothing checks the level of the trans fluid from the star tool, the diagnostic tool just checks the temperature of the fluid so it can be checked manually. If you have a 722.6 transmission, you have a dipstick tube, a 722.9 yiu have to check from the bottom pan drain.

Thank God I have a dipstick.

I used WIS to find dipstick 140 589 15 21 OO. It is available on Amazon with fluid (6 quarts), gasket and filter for $66. With splash pans removed, I just easily remove tranny pan bolts, replace fluid, gasket, and filter right? Refill with 6 quarts should be simple, right?

Are there other areas of MB STAR C3 that are useful?

I'm guessing that it came with a new cap for the dipstick tube, if not you will need that. Also, follow procedure, don't just dump in 6 quarts.

Question

Thanks for the great information.

Oops…Per the Mercedes VIN decoder, MY TRANSMISSION IS: 722901 00 001890, CODE 427, AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC. I was told that WIS article ar27.00-p-0100ac applies. However that is for a 722.6. So, the tranny dipstick I mentioned does not apply. What is the WIS article number for the above 722.9? Or, how do I find the applicable WIS documentation? Can I first enter my VIN, then search WIS for applicable articles? So, again How do I check the fluid level for my 722.9?

Is the pictured dipstick tube for engine oil?

No dipstick tube, you must put the car in the air level and check from the drain plug while the engine is running and in park at 80c trans temp(
I believe that’s the temp) Two threads, two different forums, same question same answers.

Thanks everyone for the great help.

Lessons learned for 2004 SL500AMG:

I think when DAS is connected to my car, it knows my VIN, and that my transmission is the 722.9. Since DAS does not read the fluid level, it may be giving me that error code.

There is no tranny dipstick tube. The dipstick tube by the firewall is for engine oil.

Per the Mercedes VIN decoder, MY TRANSMISSION IS: 722901 00 001890, CODE 427, AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC. (7 speed, 722.9)

Thanks Rodney. This is the proper procedure to fill and check the level: https://benzbits.com/722_9/FillFluid.pdf

Here are some utube video procedures for tranny filter change:

Here is a guesstimate about how to simply check the tranny fluid level. When DAS or a thermometer shows fluid pan is 45 degrees centigrade, engine running, in park, with car level, remove the drain plug from the bottom of the transmission pan. If only a dribble drains out, the level may be OK. I guess you can pump a little bit of fluid into the transmission through that drain plug hole. When you remove the pump hose, the fluid should drain a little until the fluid is topped off.
