Purchase Alert !
I'm going to try to make a deal on a 2006 SL500 with 130K km about 75K miles tomorrow I did a facetime review of it and it looks very nice, black with red leather interior. I has black mags which I don't like but otherwise it's fine. THe roof works but the rollbar may be stuck up. Tires and brakes are all good. I'll be trading in our 2002 Vette in excellent shape. I like the vette but it's a ragtop and I don't like that.. It's not a good travleling car for my wife and I. It's also so low it almost hurts my back. I'm not a spring chicken more like an old crow. I've had several MB cars and some good and not so good experiences. I bought my wife an SLK55 AMG and she loves it. She has the top down whenever she can it even has neckscarf and has been 100% reliable so far.

The roof shouldn't lower with the roll bar up. If you start to lower it with the bar up, it will first lower the roll bar, then lower the roof, and then raise the bar back up.

Surely that's just how they photographed it - with the roll bar up? I've not heard of them getting stuck up.
Red interior lovely!
Black wheels less so, but you could put better looking wheels on it and sell those off.
Just my personal preferences on show.

Successful purchase
I deal went ahead with no hitches. We drove it home and it ran well. The straight pipes are a bit loud but I bought a couple st k replacement that are being shipp. The red batttery light is on. I have an appointment at an undue to lol at it. If it needs a new bus. I found a place that says they can repair it $159 plus shipping and a lifetime warranty. The rims are aftermarket black with 29 series tires but in good shape. I’m do those last

Red battery alert often requires just a simple reset, which you could fix yourself with a portable scanner, which would pay for itself on the first use.
It may also indicate that a new rear battery is needed, which is common on the R230.

Tom I have an icarsoft scanner which works well except I can't find it. I usually keep it in the trunk of the SLK
I charged the back battery with no change. Today I charged the front battery and no change except the trunk soft close works again.
We'll see what the shop says.

Even if both batteries are good, you're (probably) reading a stored fault in the computer's memory which will persist until you clear it. The system can be working fine, both batteries healthy and charging. First step: clear the fault and see if it comes back.

Good work! It can be a bit fear-inducing getting those red messages, but the computers around the car are just defaulting to their limited range of notifications when something goes wrong, like the rear battery dying.
