Starter battery drain?

I keep my car on a battery maintainer connected to the consumer battery. Shouldn't it also keep the starter battery charged too? I driver the car once a month and the last couple of times I have had to directly charge the starter battery to start the car.

There is not normally a connection between the consumer battery and the starter battery, so a maintainer on the rear does not charge the front. Relay K57 will activate if the consumer battery is low, allowing essential electronics to use power from the starter battery. That said, there should be no drain on the starter battery and no need for a maintainer. You probably just have a battery going bad.

How often do you drive your car? if its once every 3 weeks you should not need a battery maintainer either your starter battery is away or you have a drain.
