Convertable roof control button question

Hi,

I am trying to replace a badly worn convertable roof top control on my 2011 SL63. I picked up button from SL550 off ebay, but my car does not have ABC button. Is it safe to replace this control despite the button difference? Thanks.

See ABC button? On my car button is blank.

Am I right in thinking that the control buttons send their inputs via Canbus? If so my instinct is that if the connectors match up then you should be OK. However, there’s a chance that if you actually press the ABC button then you might get an error code as the car will look to respond to the button press and obviously can’t.

All just intuitive thoughts and guesswork I
might be completely wrong.

I share the same intuition, it would be strange for a car manufacturer to have separate parts for something a simple as this. That said, we just disassembled the button and it looks like we will be able to move the control board from my button into new one (surprisingly, the thing looks programmable) just to be safe.

Thanks for your replies!
