Service B cost?

Hi all

I have a 2011 Sl550 and was wondering what the cost for a service cost? My dash say I have 7 days until I need it. Does service B includes topping off hydraulic fluids?

A word of advice, be careful taking your car to a Benz dealership. They're not all the same, of course, but the one near me is the worst place to ever bring a car. They falsified an inspection report, stole the entire set of floor mats out of my car, lied saying the car had several repair needs that it clearly did not need. When called out on all this, they offered to redo the inspection for which I paid $450, but I declined, no longer wanting them to be alone with my car! I had to scream to get them to buy me a new set of floor mats, ordered from Germany. There's another Benz dealer about 35 miles to the north and that one did even worse crimes against a friend of mine and his car. They told him he needed a head gasket job which he clearly didn't, then charged him (a lot) for this job when visual inspection you could tell by looking the head had never been removed from the engine! Completely Fraud. And that story even got worse from there.
I'd feel safer parking my car on skid row at midnight with the windows open. If your car needs any maintenance etc that you don't want to do yourself, it's imperative that you find a local shop that knows these cars and has a good reputation for being honest.
Mercedes-Benz says that Service B* should be scheduled every 20,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. While the list of services may vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle, all models receive the following services:
  • Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement**
  • Oil Filter Replacement**
  • All fluid level checks and corrections are dependent on factory-recommended service intervals for your vehicle’s year and model
  • Tire inflation check and correction and possible rotation
  • Brake component inspection
  • Reset maintenance counter
  • Cabin dust/combination filter replacement
  • Brake fluid exchange/flush and fill with new brake fluid
  • You could call the Benz dealer near you, with the car's VIN ask them the cost for Service B. They should be able to give you an accurate quote. But if you do take it to them, leave nothing in the car that can be stolen, and try to visually verify that the work they claim to have done, was in fact done. And be prepared to receive a laundry list of things the car needs, and have friends or someone to look for you and see whether those parts are really needing replacement. Believe Nothing until proven!! Dealers have a lot of customers who know nothing about their cars, and when presented with a sheet full of lies they say, "Okay, do you have a loaner car, and when will mine be ready?" Blindly trusting them. To them, the fact that you have an R230 signals that you have too much loose cash, and they want it.

Probably around $800 with another $3-4k in 'necessary' repairs found.

You're asking about brake fluid and power steering fluid top off? It's unlikely the fill level of either would be low, but these are easy enough for you to check yourself. The reservoirs are translucent and have fill level min/max lines on them. B service calls for brake fluid flush and replace, so this will ensure the fill level is correct. Check all your own fluids, including wiper and coolant, and avoid being charged ridiculous $$ for this.

Wow, $800 for an oil and filter change, cabin air filter replacement and new brake fluid. It can't take more than one hour to do the brake fluid change, using a Star system that does whatever it does. I think it just pumps the fluid through the system until new fluid fills it up, then re-calibrates things somehow. I can do oil and filter change in 20 minutes at home at a cost of under $75 and don't even get dirty, using my MightyVac. Cabin air filter is easy it's right under the glove box and a new one of those costs around $20. It's nice to have all this done and taken care of, but I believe my indy shop would have done it all for less than half that amount of money. In fact, they did the brake fluid replacement on my SL55 last September. This is why it's such an excellent idea to have a local indy shop. A guy can call around to a few shops telling them you have an R230 and want all new brake fluid, making sure that they know what's involved in that process, and ask what they charge. I bet if you call several shops you'd get some wildly different numbers. When I had my SL550, I had an ASE certified Master do a brake fluid replacement on that car, and he did not have an SDS or anything, he did it the "old fashioned way", just a little bit shady.... Anyhow these days I'm happy (and lucky) to have found my local indy shop that's owned and operated by two brothers who are super capable engineers, and ... they have an SDS.

Sometimes it's convenience that's part of what you're paying for, though.

What is their hourly rate?

FYI. I just called and checked and my independent MB mechanic in Oviedo (just outside of Orlando) charges $449 and says that he does more checks and services than what MB calls for.
