AC Compressor-Gauge Readings

2006 500SL, air conditioner blowing hot air even after trying to put in Freon. The AC gauge LOW is registering above the HIGH, both well below 50. The compressor and clutch are both spinning. We cleared all codes with a Foxwell NT710. Is this a sign the compressor is gone? Would love to confirm before buying a new one. Thanks for the help.

There is no A/C clutch, it is a variable displacement compressor. Check commanded compressor % in A/C module.

Thanks, I’ll do that. Not sure where I go from there though. This is new to me. Dennis

Realistically the “Freon” should be measured. If it’s low there’s a leak. Filling without draining and weighing isn’t really the correct method

Got it. We weren’t sure if the system was a bit low. Just bought the car to fix it up and sell it. But when we put the gauge on it, we saw the High was reading lower than the Low even after trying to add a little Freon. Adding the Freon didn’t solve the problem. I was told this was a sign the compressor was bad.

or a sign the compressor proportional valve is failing or ???

Try to find someone who knows MB AC systems else you will spend fortune on parts until you get lucky
