SL/R230: Occasional engine noise on start up

Occasional engine noise on start up
Afternoon all.
UK SL350, 2007 70K miles.
The car will start hot or cold many times and there is no noise, or noises. Occasionally I hear a loud clicking noise from the LHS rear of the engine, it lasts for 2-3 seconds max.
I'm assuming the noise disappears when the oil increases to normal operating pressure.
Could it be when the engine stops in a particular position, allowing the oil to leak back to the sump? Would this be related to the phase camshaft adjuster in this area?
Any advice or feed back would be appreciated.
