Rear Shock Dust Boot Replacement Procedure

I have replaced the front boots and am ready to do the rears. I have searched and read postings about rear boot replacement but don't seem to have a clear answer as to whether the boot can be replaced without full removal of the shock. I have watched the Arnott video covering shock replacement. I would like to know if the boot can be swapped out by just removing outer lower control arm bolt and swinging the arm down for access to shock or is more required such as loosening of the upper shock nuts and other components.
After closer examination I see the rear shocks do not have exposure like the fronts so they have to be dropped down to access the top boot clamp. However wondering if the shock can be lowered enough without disconnecting the hydraulic line.
