Backup camera in bumper instead of trunk lid?
Has anyone mounted a surface mount/bullet style backup camera in the rear bumper? I知 replacing my COMAND unit with a Pioneer deh-wt86-nex and want to add a back and front camera.
I知 dreading having to route the cable around the vario roof and wondering if a bumper mount would work and be easier?

wiring around vario roof is not difficult, just follow existing wiring exactly. Use plenty of small cable ties, and clip into the plastic guides.
you will need to get a 10m cable to reach though.
mounted mine on rear of the number plate
disadvantage of bumper mounting is you need to drill a large hole in the bumper, and once installed you can not adjust the position.
I like to have the edge of the bumper in the picture as a reference of how close I am getting to an obstacle. It is surprising how much tilt down is needed (45 deg) for a useful image!
