2011 SL63 6.2 will not start

Hi

Having issues with my somewhat newly acquired SL63. I've had it 6 months, and one day had a hard start, like a low battery issue. I keep it on a battery tender, drive the car about twice a week. One day, car would not start when coming out of a store. Tried jumping it, to no avail. Car comes on, responds to key, just click when try to start. Tow truck tried to jump it, did not work. Came to a conclusion, it may be the starter. Replaced it, with Bosch, car still will not start. Just 1 click... Any ideas out there of what it could be. Please help, before I drop it off at the dealer, and just destroy my wallet with BS.

How old is the battery? Even though the tender is on you may not have enough battery to start the car. Do you have any dash lights on? Can you get the car scanned, preferably with MB star Xentry DAS? Also these cars need to be jumped properly, there’s a chance electrical damage was done during the jumping, big fuse under passenger foot well has been known to cause issues. Another component that causes no start conditions is the Crankshaft position sensor located on the engine block near the bell housing, not an easy replacement. Do you have any MB independent shops in your area, which could help avoid Dealer stealer experience? Good luck and keep us posted

What is the front battery voltage? I would start with front battery and cables and then solenoid power (starter relay, passenger fuse box, and wiring).

Fixed

Replaced both batteries, and brand new Bosch starter installed. After fully charging them, car fired right up...

Amazing how nothing seemed to work when tow service came to assist. Just changing the batteries didnt work, Ended up being a combination of both batteries, and the starter to get it going. A first for me in 30 yrs of wrenching.

If you been wrenching for 30 years then you know to properly diagnose things and not just fire the parts cannon at it. Get a good laptop and diagnostic package before the next surprise. The BenzNinja membership is a great way to have access to all of the MB software and tools as well as an expert to guide you.

Nice car BTW! Love those R230 M156 roadsters....
