SL350 strange wire behind passenger footwell

Hi All

Quick question and my first thread after lots of lurking. I have a question for all you MB wizards... I noticed a strange cut wire while changing my cabin filters the other day. Is this something to be worried about as the wire has clearly been cut and looked to be gorunding something before.

Other info to note is that its a RHD and i found that previous owner has routed a hands free mobile system so some wires were spliced it seems.

Let me know if I should fix this or what it connects to, thanks!

A wire thats cut but i am unsure what it is supposed to ground.

I did a video on how to remove the subwoofer, I have just checked it and did not see a black wire like yours.
What I would do is stick a meter on it being with the positive and connect the negative to the chasis and see if there is any power, with ignition on or off. If not then you could just make it safe and leave it, or remove the sub and see where it goes.

Thanks so much for the reply! I am getting slightly star-struck it seems as I have been fixing and adjusting my SL in tandem to your videos already. I have just installed new license plate lights and ordered my gearbox mount after watching your channel! Thanks for being thorough in those videos and keeping up the fantastic content.

As for the wire, you're right and to be honest I did not even know that that was the subwoofer so I'll try my hand at getting behind it and see. Something tells me it's concerning the awful installation of the hands-free set but I'll check more thoroughly with my meter etc.

However, I have more pressing matters trying to get my SRS light to go off first ( the dreaded driver's seat connectors that MB decided to make almost impossible to gain access to...) Watch this space if I get frustrated and make another thread now that I am getting the hang of this.

Thanks again for your help, more investigation will be underway.

It looks like one of the black ground wires that run all over the car. You're probably safe to ground it and see what happens. See any of the ring terminal tags out of which it may have fallen?
