SL/R230: No Sound from Multi-CD Changer in 2005 R230 SL AMG
I’ve had my 2005 R230 SL55 AMG for years, but only recently decided to load up the CD magazine cassette located behind the driver’s seat. The magazine came out smoothly. I loaded it with CDs, reinserted it, and turned on the COMAND system, and went to audio / CD.
I see the COMAND system recognizing the CDs, and hear the magazine being loaded, and then see the first CD is playing showing the time code, but there’s no sound coming from the speakers. I cycled through all the CDs, and nothing so it's not just one disc that's the problem.
The single CD player and other audio functions work fine, so the issue is isolated to the multi-CD changer. Given that the COMAND unit is functioning correctly with other sources, I’m suspecting a connectivity issue, potentially with the fiber optic cable? But where do I start? Are there any connections I can easily inspect?
Has anyone experienced this problem before? If so, could you provide any pointers on troubleshooting before I start disassembling the dash? I’ve searched the forum but haven’t found a discussion specific to this issue.
Thanks in advance for any advice or insight.

To get the CD changer there are 2 ways, one is using a small torx bit to access the side screws, you'll need to use pliers or spanner to turn the torx as its only a small gap. The other way is to remove the panels, its quite easy start with the small front panel and undo the fixings, then pull back the rubber door trim and fixings to remove the side panel.
This video will help you, as I show how to put the panels back on, so removal is just in reverse.
