Not sure what to do about transmission.

So these are pictures from inside me trans from this June. The car was dropping out of drive while driving and trans hot. I had the same issue the summer before. I dropped the pan and looked similar. I had changed the conductor plate both times and it would drive normal again. These pictures are one year later (this June) and only about 500 miles. I have no idea where the metal is coming from. Do you think I should pull the trans out (I'm confident dropping the trans) and bring into a shop, or get another one to put in. The car has 102,000 miles. 2006. We live in Wisconsin and only drive it in the summer, on weekends.

Thank you for helping me decide.

That’s a difficult one for the 722.9 which you have. The conductor plate is part of the drive authorization theft deterrent. If you get a used one, that conductor plate needs to be changed with the old one, or you need to get a new conductor plate programmed to your vin. These transmissions have some issues, and conductor plates are one large one. I would see how much a rebuild is and start from there

I though that something might need to be programmed to my car if I swapped transmissions, but I have replaced the conduct plate without issues. Am I calling the part that I changed the wrong thing? It's in the picture.

Sorry, that much wear material after 500 miles is scary.

Rebuild or replacement, unfortunately.

If you have a local shop experienced with these transmissions, great.

Might be worth checking these guys out as well: https://southernhotrod.com/

He has a 722.6 in there (SL55).

Didn’t see that info, the 722.6 is pretty robust and doesn’t need the programming. I would look for a used one, as they rarely go bad even at higher mileage.
