SL/R230: rear qtr window replacement

rear qtr window replacement
Hey all
getting ready to replace the rear qtr window regulator in my wife's 2004 SL500. couple of questions
In order to access and remove the trim panels does the top need to be down?
and if top needs to be down in order to do so, and it cannot be operated with the switch because the rear qtr window issue, how does one manually open the top?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated

There's a manual service method to open and close the top. There are a few on youtube but this is the one that I used the other day.

Just sold my '11 Porsche TurboS cab for an '03 SL55!
I need to get at and repair or replace my driver side rear quarter window regulator as the glass on goes about 1/2 way up.
Any and all insight and experiences here would be greatly appreciated.
