Limp mode after hard acceleration
Just what the title says, my SL500 went into limp mode after a held my foot to the floor for one or two gears. I pulled over, shut the engine off and restarted it and itwas back to normal. I checked the oil level and the computer says that it is good.
I'm thinking that engine oil or transmission fluid levels sloshing around caused this maybe? Has anyone else experienced this?

You really need to check for error codes first, but a common problem with these cars is the accelerator pedal itself sending invalid values at wide open throttle. Causes exactly what you described, limp mode which clears on restart. Common fix is to replace the pedal, or to limit the pedal travel just slightly by placing a thin shim behind the pedal.
I had the same issue, so stuck a small flat washer to the little button behind the pedal using double sided duct tape. Works great now.

I'll check for errors when I get out to the garage. It is cool outside with wind gusts up to 50mph today and I'm in no hurry. I'll get out there when I can work with the doors open and the sun shining in.
