SL/R230: Is this NORMAL?

Is this NORMAL?

Below the rear bumper on my 2005 SL600 there is what I call a valance and on the right side closer to the right exhaust i have a dent in it. I don't know if this is how it comes or if mine is dented can anyone look at theirs and let me know. I attached a link to a picture

That is normal. If you look further in, there's a small square cap. I believe that is the screw-in bolt anchor they use when the car is loaded on a boat for transport.

The dent is there to allow clearance for the towing hook - it's in the tool kit. Just the job for the tow truck to pull you back on the road after you've over-cooked it on that hairpin. It would be better if the dent were not there, because I had exactly the same reaction.

Interesting to note too that the exhaust tips I seem to spend my life polishing are just cosmetic...
