Thanks, TinManMike! That's great. So that service does list my transmission as "Transmission 722901 00 043884". Can I then assume that my transmission is a "722.9"? I have been told that it has a "722.6"

Just like Humphrey Bogart said in Casablanca, "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,"

As long as you can put up with all of our random craziness, we all are willing to help those in need. Models of that generation have been repaired head to toe throughout the forums so often times you can get good accurate information quickly.

Youtube is your friend.

A computer diagnostic called Star/das/xentry is what you want to look into acquiring. The on-board systems are numerous but all very accessible in models of this vintage. Technically you dont need xentry but its worth having for down the road if you get a model past @2010 The Mercedes software will allow you to check every module and diagnose every sensor, saving time and money. Plenty of threads on this site that can help with that. Launch Creader MB is a great second, but not as capable, though easier for simple stuff and simple coding. Ive had the star/xentry systems for about ten years and it's been a great investment.
