Question Sparks at Rear SAM plus PSE, RVC Control Units not transmitting data on CAN bus B1076

Sparks at Rear SAM plus PSE, RVC Control Units not transmitting data on CAN bus B1076 B1021 B1091 FIX? rear ¼ window not working

Hi Guys, On my 2004 R230 I could not move the right rear ¼ window up or down. I replaced the window motor assembly with a used assembly and noted a clicking (I thought it was a relay on the roof module sound) and no movement. I replaced the roof RVC control unit with used unit and still got no rear ¼ window movement. SPARKS popped at wiring above the RVC control unit and behind the Rear SAM control unit. I replaced the Rear SAM with used twice and cannot get DAS to recognize it without errors transmitting data on CAN bus error codes. Now the Rear SAM, PSE, RVC Control Units are all not transmitting data on CAN bus with Fault codes: B1076 B1021 B1091. Obviously the car will not even start now, rear windows won’t work, front windows work.

AI advised the following early: The fault code B1403-001 on a Mercedes R230 (SL-Class) typically points to an issue with the rear right power window circuit, specifically that the power window relay isn't operating or circuit 30 (constant battery voltage) is missing. AI advised that the Rear SAM can keep the rear ¼ window from working. Now: Rear SAM CAL error 519.3011 typically points to a calibration or coding mismatch—often triggered after replacing the SAM or if it loses its configuration due to power issues or water damage. DAS fault (13)3.511.2116 on your 2004 R230 typically means access to Initial Startup is blocked.

DAS will not access the RVC, PSE, or Rear SAM control units to get their fault codes. As suggested terminal 30 could have a blown fuse. I might just replace the Ff52f1 100amp and Ff52f2 200 amp fuses and see if I can get DAS to access control units. IIRC it was this car that had Fault Codes(1) B1829 Stored Component Fuse for starter battery circuit is defective. IIRC I cleared that code with F9 erase codes. Then I replaced the ¼ window motor module and the RVC control unit in July to get the roof working again.

I found a thread about terminal 30 n52. https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...i-fixed-2.html I did not have to replace the Ff52f1 fuse to get the rear ¼ window and therefore the roof to work.

I found a $10 terminal 30 (n52) 100 amp fuse at O’Reilly auto parts online, and ordered free in store delivery. See the AI Copilot analysis: The Littelfuse MIDI Fuse MID100BP from O’Reilly Auto Parts is functionally compatible with the Mercedes F52f1 fuse (100A MIDI bolt-down style), but there are a few nuances worth knowing before you commit:

Can I get the old Rear SAM rebuilt, and install it without DAS install errors? Who rebuilds SAMs? Would those sparks behind the Rear SAM cause the PSE and RVC control units to fail too? I lifted the wires up going into the Rear SAM and sparking stopped. I disconnected the rear and front batteries immediately. When I replaced the Rear SAM with a used control unit and reconnected the batteries the Rear SAM, RVS, and PSE control units developed communication errors with CAN bus. Where do I go from here?

Water streamed into the Driver’s side SAM a year ago. The car ran really rough on the way home. Then I dried it out before operating it again. Now I get events from that control unit:

Event memory
B1076 Stored&Current
Control unit N10/8 (Rear SAM control module) is not transmitting data on the CAN bus.
B1021 Stored&Current
Control unit A37 (PSE control module (combined)) is not transmitting data on the CAN bus.
B1091 Stored&Current
Control unit N52 (RVC control module) is not transmitting data on the CAN bus.

Actual data; 100 Terminal 30 12.50 V

Is there something I can do with the Driver’s side SAM to fix communication with and recognition of the Rear SAM, PSE and RVC control units?

DAS can access the new installed SAM?

The issue is caused by damaged wiring above the RVC and behind the Rear SAM, which is preventing CAN bus communication and triggering fault codes B1076, B1021, B1091, as well as Rear SAM CAL error 519.3011. To fix it, inspect and repair any shorts or damaged wires, ensure proper power (circuit 30) and grounds to the Rear SAM, PSE, and RVC, then recode and calibrate the modules via DAS. Do not replace modules again until the wiring and CAN bus integrity are fully restored. Once the wiring and coding are correct, the rear ¼ window and other affected systems should function.
