Radio wiring/canbus issue

Im a radio installer and ive been having some issues with a vehicle im working on.

Ive done these before but not this exact model.

2009 r230 sl350 facelift
it has harmon kardon, and a ntg 2.5 system

I have a correct canbus/radio adapter.
but i couldn't seem to get any life at all.

The radio connector had perminant 12V- ground

And what i belive were the can-H, and can-L
(2 small brown wires, 1 with a red stripe)

When i had the headunit plugged in with the canbus decoder it wouldn't power up and the car wasn't happy with it dash flashing, ect ect.

The wiring harness had a fly lead for canL-canH that would plug into the can block at the fusebox.

Chat gpt insisted that there is no canbus at the radio head and that i needed to use the can block at the fusebox.
is this right or is my canbus adapter dead

The CANBUS adapters I know take the steering wheel controls and convert them to signals the new head unit can understand on its "remote control" input. They also can read the CANBUS and give signals to the head unit like ignition, lights, reverse, handbrake etc.

NTG 2.5 has its audio gateway built in and no MOST connection so are easy to swap out. It should have CANBUS connections on the existing headunit harness making CAN connection easier than connecting to the rear SAM/Fusebox connector behind right-hand seat.

Incorrectly connecting the CANBUS should not cause any issues like you describe (even grounding one cable!) but disconnect it to be sure, so it sounds like there is an issue with the harness, which has been noted before!

im pretty sure it was the canbus adapter as the can lines going to the canbox from the oem quadlock lined up, I tried flipping them just to be sure and nothing.
and the issues with the dash flashing, only every 30 seconds or so was only with the canbus adapter plugged in so it was probably incorrectly wired or cooked inside
