Got my MB Cell phone installed today

Wife and drove to Nashville to get the top of the line MB cell phone with the greatest technology install in our SL500. A Motorola V60S.

We tested the phone and it works great, but what we love is the voice control over the command system. Wife and I were able to say CD1, track4 and the command system would play exactly what we say. We got excited.

We later program the phone with my brother's number. Now, we just say dial looser and it dials him.

I would recommend the MB phone because of the voice-activated system. The voice system will allow you to control the radio, CD, and phone with voice commands. The voice system will make driving a lot safer because you do not have to look for buttons to press.

Congratulations on your new state of the art phone!

However, just a note that the voice control system is completely separate from the phone. The VCS/VRM can be installed without a phone system, or in concert with any Mercedes integrated phone system (UHI/MHI/6310i/v60/startac etc.), or even with the semi-integrated phone systems (FSE11 etc.).

It can be installed before, after, or at the same time as a phone system.

I was unaware the VCS could be used with out having the phone installed. Is the available in the 04? Any idea of cost?

Tigger, have you tried the VCS with the top down? Any problems with the wind?

The voice quality is great with the top down. I did not get above 50 mphs. I drove around the city calling my wife to say, can you hear me now. I have to talk in a normal voice tone or the VCS will not work well. At first I was talking too loud and VCS did not work that well, but I eventually started talking in a normal tone and everything works great. Even my wife told me to talk softer on the phone. I have a 2004 SL500.

The MB phone system voice quality with a V60S on a Verizon CDMA plan is a whole like better than my wife's Cingular GSM T720 when driving with the top down. Wife is so impress with Verizon that she will switch to Verizon next month when her Cingular contract expiries.

This voice activation of the Command is called Linguatronic in Europe and the microphone is in the centre light console. It's noise cancelling but my experience of it is that the performance deteriorates with the roof down. It may or may not be able to understand what you're saying. Still, the ability to dial someone simply by saying their name is a big improvement on scrolling through a list. Whether you need it to be able to jump to a specific CD track is debatable but on balance it's worth having.

I'm impressed tiggerfink that your mso is so interested in such things not to mention your being willing to drive half-way across Tennessee to get it installed. There's commitment for you.

Sorry, mso = most significant other, generic term for wife/partner/girl-friend etc.
