SL/R230: Navigation? Alt?

2006 SL600, 2001 S500, 1996 SL320
Navigation? Alt?
When you are using the navigation, on the bottom of the display you see an "ALT" followed by a number, I typically see ALT 150 then below it a satelitte followed by a number. What does this mean?
