CD Changer

I was thinking of getting an additional changer cassette for my 04 sl500. Any idea who makes the changer? Is it cheaper to go aftermarket, or just go to dealer. Thanks. (P.S. I did a search, but could not find any info)

I think it's made by Alps but I'm not sure. Probably best to just go to the dealer, what will it be, $50?

Get an Alpine magazine. You used to be able to find them at Circuit City at two for $30 or something like that. You can probably get them at Crutchfield. Yes, you can, they have one for $20 or two for $30. If you're not into mail order then check your local stereo shop that carries Alpine.

Thanks for the input. I thought it might be Alpine. Hopefully there is only one style.

There are several different ones, but if you pay attention to it (that you need a 6-disc CD magazine), you won't have a problem. The other variations are for DVD changers, 12-disc, etc.

Actually there are a few different 6 Disc CD Changer magazines from Alpine. The older 6 Disc magazines like the Alpine 4905 won't work. You want the Alpine KAE-116C (One Pack) or Alpine KAE-216C (Two Pack).

That's true but I haven't found anyone who sells those magazines... do you have a source for them (I could use one if it's not too much to use another old changer in a 126).

I just sold the last 6 Alpine 4905 magazines I had. Check Ebay, there were a few up at low prices.

Thanks, I wondered if those would work. Crutchfield also seems to have a "usa spec" brand, and I think that mag will work also. I turn cars over so often nowadays, that I have lost touch with all the aftermarket audio stuff.

Turns out, the magazine from the dealer was only $25.00 retail. Very surprised, I expected close to double the price of aftermarket. Thanks again for your replies.

The magazine I bought was from the dealer. I was surprised the price was so low.
