Help needed

Yesterday, I was at my sisters house showing her my sl and demonstrating the roof mechanism. When closing the roof, the trunk lid would not go down without some manual help. Her driveway is a sharp upward incline. I later opened and closed the roof on the level, without problems. Has anyone experienced this? If the consumer battery was a little low, would this happen? The car was running at the time. It seemed as though the motor could not get the trunk lid started on it's downward swing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I just found out there is TSB#P-77-37-21 concerning this issue. The tsb came out in Mar-04.

I have never experienced this problem but then again, the slopes have been minor that I have opened my roof on.

Can you not call the Dealer and see what he says about the TSB?

I have a call into the dealer, but they were very busy, so I will have go tomorrow and see what the tsb says. Some brands are very tight about releasing tsb info to customers. So far, this dealer has been great about releasing this kind of info. They printed out several for me last week.

If you have any problems which I suspect you won't, let me know. I can get it.

Good luck.

I just found out the tsb refers to a fluid leak in the system. So, I am back to the inclination situation. Anybody else have this problem? Lovin, next time your in the city, could you try this on a steep hill? Thanks.

Shall do. Not sure when I will get there but when I do, I absolutely will. There are plenty of hills to check it on.

Thanks Lovin, there is also the possibilty of cold weather in this scenario, but it was only 35 when this happened. The roof worked fine when back on level ground.

Carlos, the tsb refers to a hydraulic fluid leak in the roof mechanism not the brakes. You can go to your dealer with those tsb numbers from alldata.com, and they should print them out for you.

Red face

The mechanism is either not man enough to work on hills, or it senses it and shuts off.
My mum and dad live on a hill, the roof works intermittently.
When I got the car and started showing it off outside their house, it taught me a lesson.........show off on level ground only.

I know the car has a sensor for the floor if it to slow but if probably that it has more sensor for the inclination of the car that stop or look the roof mechanism.

Got to be careful, imagine trying to operate whilst in traffic on a hill and it stopped half way down. Not cool

Mine stayed in the fully open position. After I ran the motor for a few seconds, I was able to just push the trunk lid down too an almost closed position. At that point I pushed the switch and it closed and locked. I wonder if the motor just gets it started and then uses the weight of the trunk lid to close.
