SL Value vs New Porsche 991 C2S Cab
Just read in the new Robb report the base price of the new 991 C2S coupe is 96k so a well equipped cab should be about the same as the new SL. But it appears to me the SL offers so much more for the money, folding glass hardtop vs cloth, TT V8 vs flat 6, far more more techo/luxo goodies, all alloy body vs alloy/steel. Both cars have similar 0-60 +/- 4 sec's, 60-0 braking +/- 114 ft and 7 speed trans but the 991 does offer a dual clutch unit with launch control for more $. I love 911's, have been blessed to own quite a few and i realize the 911 is a pure sorts car but for the $ I think the SL gives more. Thoughts?

2013 SL550, 2011 E550 4-matic, 2010 S550, 2010 ML350, 2010 BMW X3, 2010 BMW 328i
I think they are both great cars but are definitely different cars. The Porsche focuses hard toward sports car, the SL is focused on high powered luxury roadster. However, the SL does break new ground with the nearly all aluminum body and sets new standards for their competition to do the same.
All things made equal, it appears that the SL is a bigger bang for the cost with lots of nice to have extras you won't want to do without after using them. That is, if you want luxury over the more pure bred sports car.

It's obvious they're different but both cars are on many people's radar especially since they are both all new models for '13 with the SL becoming sportier and more powerful and the 991 becoming more luxurious and larger.
If it's true the 2014 S class will get a base single turbo V8 with 510 HP and if it makes it into the SL, it will firmly be in 991 S acceleration territory. Don't know why MB would make this change so soon from TT but it's being reported...we'll see. The '14 E class with the new ST V8 goes from 408 to 435 HP which is supposed to debut in Europe early next year; I'd guess the SL with the new setup gets at least 460 HP for '14
Purpose of the thread was to compare value of these two new models and IMHO the SL wins.
