Are trunk "close/lock buttons" illuminated ?

Not the oval one on the chassis (is lit ok), but referring to the 2 square-shaped underneath the trunk-lid?

I was thinking that mine used to be lit several months ago.. maybe I accidentally switched them off

Our '12 ML's are lit all the time

Both of mine are lit.

While looking, I noticed a flashing dim green light above the lighted switches. Any ideas?

I determined that the lighting of the trunk-lid buttons is tied to the interior (dome & under dash) lighting on-off settings.. not to be confused with the ambience lighting, which is separate.

Awhile back I had turned off the overhead lighting feature so that soon as I shut the SL off that its dome lights would no longer come on.

I'll have to check out the green button you mentioned

Yesterday I checked mine. It works as yours does. I still can't find any info on the flashing green light.

I believe the green button is a safety feature if you are locked IN the trunk. Never tried it but I think it opens the trunk.

I pressed the button with the green flashing light, as the trunk lid was closing. It stopped the lid in position.

I believe you're right regarding emergency opening of the trunk if locked inside. Though, I too don't care to try it out.
