SL/R231: Magic Sky
Magic Sky
What are everyone's thoughts on this option? My dealer has a few cars w/o it and is intimating that's it's a "not ready for prime time" option I should avoid even if ordering a car. What do you think? BSing me to sell a car in stock or does he have a point?
I am still not sure about it, but I am sure that he is BS'ng you to sell a car in stock. I did look at a 2013 yesterday with the Magic Sky, the car was Black and the guy told me that he would not get a car without it - BS?.
I will probably order a white car, I am still not sure if I'll get Magic Sky but I am leaning towards doing it. I have a 2007 now without it, I would love to hear opinions from people with the option.

My sales man told me that this option was not going to be available untill the end of the year so I guess he fool me. This is the 4th MB I buy from this guy and I'm mad he pull that stunt on me.
I also ordered my SL without Magic Sky, but I don't ever use the sunroofs in my cars. It's almost worth having just for the novelty.
I don't have it and don't miss it. First off, the top is mostly down. Secondly, I rarely drive at night and if I did, I'd not be looking at the stars.
Finally, I live in Florida (not that the rest of the country hasn't been hotter this summer), and have never felt the need to close the sunshade. The summer sun seems to have no effect. The stock glass does a fine job blocking the sun.
OTOH, the "Magic Sky" is so cool, I would have enjoyed having it.

It is a cool feature but I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker to not have it. If you just gotta have it order from another dealer and have the car shipped.
I test drove the car and liked it....but I would be concerned it would malfunction in the sky position and I'd be pissed. I wouldn't select it, personally.

I have the Magic Sky option, not because I really wanted it, but the dealer had a car that I fell in love with, and it had that option. I have to say the "cool" factor is high, and I like it more than I thought I would. With ignition off, the top goes dark to keep cooler when parked in sun. I assume this means if it failed, it would fail dark, not clear. And dark, is not opaque, more like a very deep tinting.

I have it and I love it. It beats a sliding shade hands-down.
It's more than ready for prime-time. Yes, it's not cheap, but I'm glad I ordered it.
Your dealer is BS-ing you big-time.
If I were to ever take a car off the lot with "compromises", it would have to be with a two-digit discount!
