It looks and smells like engine oil. But could be something else.
Very small leak but should be totally dry on a new SL.
I am taking the car in to have it checked next week. Will update on findings.

For those who are interested:
Dealer found the oil leak. There is a high pressure "oil pressure port" near the top of the engine on the right side. There is a "crush washer" style of seal mechanism on this port. The bolt and washer was apparently not tightened enough at the factory and had begun to leak when the oil pressure was high at higher rpms.
Replaced the "crush washer" and tested. Leak gone.
I was never able to get a clear understanding of why this port is on the motor. Maybe for an oil cooler fitting?
Just fyi.

Hi, most likely you have an oil leak from your transmission. If so be careful as that leak could make its was through the bushing( MB have a problem with bushings on their automatic transmissions) and flood your ECU. You will then experience intermittent problems with you transmission as it tries to cope with this fouling by the oil. Again MB know this problem exists and are colour coding this bushing so that each tim that car is being serviced they will know when it was last replaced and then they can proceed to replace the bushing without advising the Client of what the game plan is.concealing is what it is all about.
Be careful folks
