SL/R231: Different Front License Plate mount
#26
I had tried Wolfman’s method but it appeared this would not stand the test of time as mounted on my SL63. But it did get me a couple weeks of ticket-free driving. I ended up using Sto N Sho via a custom mount through their site. I sent them photos of my tape measure in positions they requested and in a week I had custom, detachable, front license plate bracket for my 2013 SL63. While it requires drilling the lower silver piece for stability, no one except the service technician will ever see it.

Looks great! My solution was strictly to avoid drilling the bumper for the standart mount (underneath doesn't matter).
But if you want to do this right, get the plate mount from Mid City Engineering. This way you can hide the plate most of the time but show it when parked, stopped, etc.
