Brand and Viscosity of Oil Used

I realize there is some flexibility on viscosities used in our 550s but does anyone know what the car came with and what are you using to top it off should the need arise?

Did a search but haven't found anything.

There are resources. Try http://www.nexttechnology.us/MB/OIL.HTML you can also do a google search on mercedes-benz oil charts - that will turn up a couple more - one is under StarTekInfo http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...tedDocId=10119

For the most part they come from the factory filled with Mobil 1 - either 0W-40 or 5W-40 (either willl work). If your dealer has done an oil change, you'll have to ask what they use. Basically, any oil carries the legend MB Approval 229.5 is what you're looking for.
