SL/R231: damaged sl550 for x-mas.

damaged sl550 for x-mas.
Tis not the season to be jolly for me lately. I was taking my one year old SL550 to a high end car wash recently, when their machine tore up. My car came out the other end having been beat up to the point it needs a new bumper, hood, and the entire front of the car will need to be repainted. They claim they will fix it of course, but the question is, what if anything would the market be for a severely damaged and repaired, nearly new SL550 be? Even with the "depreciation" check from their insurance, I doubt the difference would begin to cover it. I called a local dealership's used car department, and they said they either wouldn't take such a car in trade, as it could no longer be MB certified, or that I would get very little for it, if I did. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it were me, I'd refuse to accept the damages. I'd find an attorney and send the car wash a letter stating in essence what you just said and demand they replace the car. If they refuse you can sue them for the damages described.

Oh goodness, that's really sad to hear. I don't worry about me messing up my SL550; I worry about others doing so.
No real advice to give, except you'll probably just need to have it repaired by a top-end shop and get all the $ out of them you can. After watching what goes on at the factory to build the S-Class with such precision, I know it will never be the same.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and sympathies. Fortunately I was able to be compensated for the blue book value of my car in excellent condition and found a good deal on a 15' replacement.
Happy New Year,
May It be better than the last!
