i have what I assume is an unusual problem. There is an annoying thumping sound when the car moves or stops. I can make it happen by just pushing forward and backward on the car even when stopped. The MB dealer has identified it as a loose baffling in the gas tank. Makes sense. Their answer is to replace the gas tank at about $2500. Anybody have a much simpler and cheaper answer?

Search in the 230 forum. that was an early problem with that model and there are several easy and inexpensive solutions. The one I remember most involved inserting a spring into the tank and hooking the loose baffle to it.
You'd think they'd avoid that problem again. They fixed it in later models of the 230
