2013 SL 550
MB or Jag?

Looking at a CPO 2013 Sl550 or a new 2014 Jaguar XK-R. I like the performance and reliability of the MB but would also like to try a supercharged Jag before I die. I think that Jag reliability has become better though I have read some reports that there still might be hiccups. Also I bet that resale will be weaker on the Jag.

I know there might be a slant on here but there also might be people that have looked at both.

Opinions?

If you're into the tech part of the car (nav, audio options), I think the MB is superior. Jag used a Flash based system that was laggy and not very nice to use.

Performance wise, the Jag has a lot more muscle. If you prefer a more refined ride, but still good performance when in sport mode (albeit still less than the Jag), pick MB.

Performance wise, the SL550 is faster than the XKR. On paper and typically more so in real life. The SL550 when tested goes between 3.9 to 4.1sec to 60.
Maybe you are thinking the F-type R?

I'd say go Jaguar! I also have always admired Jaguar's, but when the design of the XJ went the way it did, I was pretty unimpressed.......
looks wise, I say any Jag would be better than a SL

if I were in your boots, I'd go for the Jaguar

I hope the newer jags don't break down as often as the older ones, I had a jag during the ford era and it was one problem after a next. I had a friend with a 2011 XK and the engine blew on him 3 times during the factory warranty, he got sick of it to the point he swapped it for an Audi TT RS before finally swaping that for an Audi R8 V10

F Type R looks really nice but it looks a little overpriced compared to the other cars in the same category. I would think the XK is due for a replacement of the old model since its already at year 8/9 now (from what I heard not until 2016 or later).

If you want an F Type R I'd look into it, but if you want an XK I'd do some research and make sure a replacement doesn't come the following year after your purchase.

I was going by horsepower: the Jag has 510 vs 429 in the MB. According to the websites, the 0-60 times are on par with each other.

The F Type is a beautiful car. Jaguar already announced that the XK is being discontinued (probably due to the F Type!).

Understood. Not sure why the Jag is so slow given the HP, but the stock SL will easily beat the XKR. Not to be nitpicking but it still is 4.5 vs. 4.6 on paper

The F-type looks like a fun car though and the R model is a very fast car. It possesses the sportiness Jaguar likes to be known for.

Decision made. 2013 SL550 CPO on the way. Kept getting hinky feelings about the SKR even with a longer warranty.

That's funny because from I hear MB's have worse reliability than late-model Jags.

I've owned both. One XK and presently a 2013 SL550. The XK's looks beat the heck out of the SL550 hands down and is a joy to look at even when walking out of the store to your car.

Best to just own both imho. XK is MUCH better looking than the F-type. i had no reliability problems with my XK vs the dynamic seats in my 2013 both having Failed (pump timed out due to leaks in both seats.) plus the trunk supports had to be replaced because in cold weather the lid would slowly fall down while your loading luggage/whatever.

KIND OF A REAAAAAL OLD THREAD HERE.

I have both. Each are 8 cylinders and the MB is much stronger.
