SL-400 questions

I'd like to replace my '14 C7 Vette conv. with a used SL400. What was the first year for this model, and what changes have been made since first released. Is there anything to avoid when searching for a vehicle? When pricing a new one the only options that I absolutely must have are Premium 1 and Sport wheels. Thanks,

I'm not sure a SL400 is much of a replacement for a Vette. Maybe a SL63 or SL65 would be closer in that regard.

To answer your question though, I think 2015 was the first year (in the US) and I don't think they imported the SL320. Prior (recent) years the SL started with the SL550.

I would make sure you test drive a 400 and a 550 back to back. There is no comparison in power and sound. I currently have a CTS-V Coupe and thought about getting a 400 last fall. I test drove it and it was nice but then I test drove a 550 and it was not much slower than my V. It was powerful and drove super smooth. I think coming from a Vette you might be disappointed in the 400 performance. I am holding out for the new 550's to come out in summer.

Thanks for the response, but if performance was my concern I wouldn't be think of trading for an SL. I'd have to pay over $200k to even come close to my C7. I'm 72 and thinking about a little more comfort, but I'm not sure I will even get that. I'm heading north in a few days and will probably drive both. Finally, I'll be giving up fuel mileage on any of them. Not bashing just stating facts. I've loved the look of the SL's since the R230 models.

Fair enough. I think you still should make it a point to drive each (SL400, SL550 and SL63) before you make a final decision.

The price difference can be smaller than it initially appears once you factor in options.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Most of 70s something who drive SL63s around here (and there are a lot of them) drive them as they are SL400s. (they do not buy AMGs for performance, but because they can). I also see many 70s in Vettes getting routinely passed by teens in Honda Civics. Make your own conclusions.

There was a price difference reply above. Well...it is significant for new cars (of course not nearly so when used). When new, 2015 SL550 was $18K more than SL400 when equally equipped, while SL63 was about $35K more than SL550.
