SL/R231: clanking sound

clanking sound
I purchased the 2016 SL550 in May this year. I am enjoying the smooth power. Sometimes if i accelerate hard i hear a loud clanking sound coming from the passenger side dash area. I have had the SL into the dealer but they could not duplicate the sound (like a pop bottle banging against cement-without breaking). I am usually not able to get it to make the sound when i try.

i have found that i can duplicate the loud clanking sound if i am going over bumps (like railroad tracks) while accelerating hard.
will be bringing to dealer for test drive with service on Wednesday

I had a noise on the driver side once (ABC) and it was some kind of strut valve. If it's springs, the car may have had shipping spacers installed. Wouldn't be the first time if the prep guys overlook something...

I brought the SL to Maplewood Imports and took a ride with the Shop Forman. I was able to duplicate the clank sound by driving over train tracks while accelerating hard. He said it was the top and lubricated it-I will see if he was correct.

heard the clanking sound again today with the top down-accelerated hard on right turn and recorded it

the dealer fixed the clank sound-it was a large metal damper in the area above the windshield where the roof locks are-they used MB felt tape-i didn't think they would find it
