MBWorld Fanatic!
I suspect the media understands the SL and it's niche much less than Mercedes does, and would be surprised to see MB/AMG move far from the GT niche with any new SL.
If people want a racy two seater with a ragtop, they can get a GT convertible. The SL fills a special place where you get "substantial" performance... plus comfort, elegance and dignity.
I don't expect MB to lose sight of the SL's place in the world. It fills a very successful niche very well.

AMG GTC Roadster, E63s Ed.1, M8 Comp. Coupe
Great info. Some of it is highly unlikely though, timing being one of them.
I find a lot of the comments in the automotive press wrong that feel that there is no place for the SL between the S-Class cab and the AMG GT roadster.
I agree with nycphotography. I think there's a huge gap between the two for a 2 seat luxo cruiser that happens to be fast.
The S-Class cab is a big boat and the AMG GT too hard core. AMG is not mainstream for the SL demographic, at least for most .

I've read in several articles that the V12 is due for some upgrades. It's also been mentioned AMG wants to further differentiate from the "lowly" SL63.
The last lines: "Meanwhile, AMG will continue to produce V12 engines, so it’s a safer bet that the flagship SL 65 will return once again. Another source said the SL was the next in line for development from Mercedes. ".......maybe a slight typo????? Perhaps it meant to state [B[B]]"....the SL65 was next in line for development from Mercedes."
If the 63 is 603bhp/627lb/ft.......I'd expect to see a 700+hp V12.
I believe the SL fills in an important niche........I will order a R232 V12.
