The Mercedes-Benz SL is a timeless automotive icon, but its current form is not long for this world.

So the current R231 will be the last SL designed on it's own platform. Intriguing that AMG will oversee the development and use the MSA concept; modular architecture has been in place for years from MB and others, so that is not a new process. I must say that unless they really hit a home run from a performance / handling / GT concept, this will likely make my R231 a keeper at my house. Additionally the 'rag top' has little to no appeal to my better half, which she has noted on the E and S convertibles.

I am definitely keeping my 2007 SL55 AMG. Hopefully existing owners of R230 and R231 cars will get an up tick in value

The ragtop is old news; this has unfortunately been know for a couple of years by now.
I have not heard of a 2+2 combo and think this is highly unlikely. They may decide to add a couple look-alike seats like the old R107's.

Glad I bought my 2017 SL especially if Mercedes changes over to a soft top.
I have owned two previous soft tops and did not like the top, even the one that was lined. They let in more road and traffic noise and in the Summer here in S.E. Texas the heat comming through is huge. When I had the Z3 I had to wear a baseball cap with the top closed and AC running full blast because the heat from sunlight on the top of my head was so intense June, July and August each Summer.......
