Ultimate PD Airbox Mod

For those of you who like K&N filters, this company makes a nice kit which raises the filter by expanding the filter box with metal frames. All the hardware fits and everything seems to work well. As you know, the stock filter blocks air entry into the airbox. I installed it in the middle of the night when I was bored. Simple mod and will review later about the performance.

Nice install review. You have any pictures to post after the install on your new SL?

Maybe someone on this forum can give me the easiest way to post pics from my iPhone. I am not the best with technology.

Well after driving 100 miles today up and back to Albany, here are my impressions. Low end torque seems to be the same and comes on at 1500 RPM. Mid-Range power seems to be increased. I got challenged twice today and the car easily beat them to their surprise. At higher cruise speeds, the car remains quiet-no increase in sound transmission from the engine airbox. So far, so good. Seems to complement the Weistec tune-540bhp and 615tq alone. And thank god, no check engine light

Air Intake

I would like to know if there is a major difference between the Ultimate and the Weistec air intake filter systems. I can see the Weistec is almost half the price.

The Weistec system is just a pair of thinner filters, so it does not block the air inlet into the box. The Ultimate PD system is a set of filters and a pair of metal rectangular brackets that raise the filter box height so that even a stock filter can fit and not block the air inlet. The brackets were surprisingly good. They snapped into place when I put them in. The hardware was good quality and believe it or not, the filter system/air boxes seem more secure over the engine. The only complaint I have is the engine covers are a little elevated. I have K & N and BMC filters. I like being able to install both. As for the price, I just bought the hardware, not the filters. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
