Best way to get a bit more noise from a SL500 r231?
Hi All,
I have just bought an SL500, 2012, 12k miles and what an amazing car. My only complaint is given the unbelievable engine, the Car is CRIMINALLY quiet.
I have read that removing the exhaust resonators is an easy solution to getting my SL500 to make a bit more noise, without going too far, compromised or antisocial. Something in line with the volume of the first gen SL55 AMG or a bit less is what I would love to get.
has anyone tried yet on a R231 500 ?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Richard.

I have a 2013 SL550 that I bought CPO. The previous owner had SL63 resonators installed. You get a rumble on start up and a pleasant sound cruising. Stomp on it and the car ROARS! I’m usually one for quiet cars and was going to put stock resonators back on, but Izvestia come to like the sound. It’s perfect for a sporting car, but expensive. According to the previous owner, this cost him $3,000.00+.

More Exhaust Noise from your SL500/550?
Hi, I have recently purchased a 2013 SL500 (I believe its called SL550 in the US). Love the car and its relaxed nature, but also wanted a bit more from the exhaust, especially as it's a V8. Looking under my car I saw two mufflers at the extreme rear on both sides. At first they looked small, but it turns out they are a bit larger that I originally thought. i took my car to the local exhaust shop and got them to remove these rear mufflers and replace them with straight pipe.
WOW what a difference. Not overly loud or obnoxious, but a terrific bassy off-beat rumble that I just love. And best of all it cost me just $130.
