Battery Low = Car stuck in Park?

I was playing around with some things on my car today, and the battery ended up getting pretty low. I figured that out when I went to start it and it just barely turned over. I figured I'd go drive it around some to let the battery recharge, but the car was stuck in Park. It also had the engine symbol lit up in the dash. There were no messages shown for error codes. Is this known to happen? I let it idle for about 15 minutes and then turned it off and back on, and it was still stuck in park. I then went back in the house for about 30 minutes, came back out, and everything worked fine.

On a side question, is it possible to get the lower LED lights to stay on all the time? The orange curved lights already do, it's a Canadian car. The only time I see the LED strip lights on is after I lock the car doors, for temporary exterior lighting.

I've read that the LED DRLs will not be on at night in the "headlights on" position (1:00 o'clock) so leave the switch straight up on "Automatic".....
