[QUOTE=rorywquin;7821659]I have an old back injury - anyone without a problem (and both those all important thumbs) will have no problem.
I stand corrected! Having watched the video it does seem pretty useful for $500. I will consider it after my warranty's up in October. Till then I may program seat memory button #2 for easy egress. How does the SmartTop do that for you? Push once/push twice? Also, what is the max speed a non-SmartTop SL can put the top down? 0 kph?

The main advantage (of ST) is that you do not have to be at a standstill to start the process.

1) My car is still under warranty
2) Seats - program 2 & 3 and enable the option in teh setup menu. When you start / stop the engine the magic happens no need to touch the seat memory buttons.
3) Speed - not sure but it can be faster than what MB have set. I kept mine to what MB say....never seen the need to be going faster. (I think MB setting is 40kmh. and ST is 60 max)

Well, I suppose that explains a lot!....(Except of course, just why you need the 'Smart Top' device to open the roof for you)...
For the record, I think a bit of 'added gadget functionality' is just fine if you think it's truly worth it, based on your own 'expected usage', but that doesn't mean there's much of a compelling case' to be made for acquiring this particular device..
Apparently you find it necessary to open your top 'remotely' via the Smart Top' each and every time you drive it, but I think for most of us, the open/close switch on the 231's console is quite sufficient for that purpose..
Much the same can be said for 'other functions' touted by the Smart Top device.

It is my money, my car and my choice.
I use the car for road trips around the UK, Ireland and Europe every year. One thing I hate is parking my car outside a nice coffee shop / restaurant / tourist attraction (in front of all the customers) while I sit in my car or stand next to it and wait for the roof to close or open. I park, get out and click the key fob while walking away and let the car locks itself.
If you like posing while your roof opens / closes be my guest!

Bob, Bob, Bob ,Bob, Bob....
Nobody has tried to sell you anything.
1) People have asked about why we install the ST and answers have been provided.
2) Others questioned the functionality - I've explained why (for me it is great).
3) Many people (possibly you included) have never heard of a ST so it was also sharing of (what I consider useful).
If you don't want one don't get one - nobody has a gun to your head......
Not sure what put the hornet up your butt, but have a nice day.
I'm out of here.

As a service to other members, I’ll point out a useful feature that was part of the BMW forum I used to frequent, and just discovered here as well - the IGNORE LIST. Click on User CP at top left, then Edit Ignore List. You can now enter the user name of any members you wish. Hit Save Changes and now all posts by said member(s) will be hidden unless you click View Post. It’s a shame when such a feature becomes necessary, but it works like a charm.
