SL/R231: Oil? Oil Filters?

Oil? Oil Filters?
I see a sticker on the underside of the hood saying MB recommends Mobil 1 oil. I also looked in the owner's manual at the chart for recommended viscosities and it looks like anything between 0w30 and 0w40 will work fine in my area. Looked around yesterday and did see the European formula Mobil 1 on the shelf in Walmart. It is a 0w40 oil and has the MB certification. What oil do the dealers use? I am going to ask my local dealer but was curious if MB requires all dealers to use the same brand. What do you folks use if you change it yourself? I have a friend with a lift and I may change my own unless the filter is a pain to remove. Last question: Anyone know who makes the MB branded oil filters? I did not see a fitment in the Fram filters on the shelf at Walmart. I'll probably buy a few from my local dealer.

Hello RMorin, while i do not yet have an SL, here is what I use on my V8 CLS 550 ( same engine as the SL550 ) and my GLK 350 ( M276 engine - V6 3.5 ltr NA ):
Oils- Mobil 1 European Formula from Walmart - what you saw on the shelf works good.
Oil filters: You can buy OEM MB parts from various online MB parts stores or you can get OE quality German brands like Hengst. Just search the internet by the relevant MB part number for your oil filter and you should see a number of options.
