SL/R231: Tangled Up in Blue!
Some of the coupes (Both 2 seats and 2+2) that I have owned:
1> Triumph TR7 for 2 years- (Bought used as a high school graduation present (I had to pay half LOL-The best handling car I will ever own- had to have it fixed every month - NO A/C in Houston - holy hell. I was young and stupid.
2> 68 327 Camaro- heavily used my first car- slide master even with 50's on the rear. Had the speedo and RPM "tittie" plastic gage covers.
3> Volkswagon Scirroco 16V- total love drove it into the gound- should ahve bought 2 and never driven one LOL Drove it from San Antonio to Mexican border at Brownsville maybe 100 times! Overheat in Texas summers a lot
4> BMW E46 ZHP 330i Coupe- maybe the best car I will ever own. The BMW ZHP were smooth as butta- this was the "muscle car" under the true M- but so much smoother. Brother killed it with a deer.
5> BMW Z4MC- the last "raw" BMW 333 hp no turbo- same as E46M motor- calm when needed- METALLIC WAIL when you hit it- a total bad ***- excellent manual tranny
But the SL is the culmination of all of the above- excellent cars- the SL fills in the blanks that the others had, and then some. Just got her back from Xpel and the rock chip company.
They both did an excellent job- not cheap but the car looks almost brand new save for about 8-10 small rock chips on the front bumper- but they are minimal, expected for a 2017 car and you have to be up close to see them.
and one day will probably have it painted but that's probably a $ 3000 trip to the body shop that I dont want to do right now. Not needed. But I did have the bumper DOUBLE expelled cuz it will only get worse here.
I cant say how pleased I am with the Blue- I have been most of my car career a black white gray guy but this Blue just POPS and IS "Brilliant Blue"
To me it is also the spirit of the car. When looking for a used SL with ABC your choices are few and I couldn't be happier with the results. I know they cars are dipped in the tank- but the blue looks like it is still dripping off .
And while my first choice was silver (Not as "pop-ish, but looks fantastic and hides the dust better than the blue).
But blue is in the nature of the coastal and boulevard cruising SL (Or Texas hill Country in my case) with open and blue skies- My Golf R is almost the same shade (SL is nicer) but the R cuz the VW color choices for the R were terrible in 2018
But the SL was because that's the best I could get without looking every week some new SLs and just hard to find any with ABC- that I am SO glad I got. But blue even adds to the exclusivity of the SL- how many 2017-2019 Blue ones? 300-400? Less?
Some care, some dont about this but we obviously like a certain amount of "only me" about these machines.
I can already tell I love the drive-ability of this MB- and compared to the S 550 Coupe its... I will put up my 30-60 day review soon LOL !
but I do have 1 question:
1> Ooooh that smell- there is a hard to describe smell that is part "German Crayon" (When been in the heat too long and the German adhesives "gas off" and your Grammas bedroom.
The gray one that MB Bought back smelled identical. But where the Gray on obviously was sitting in the sun somewhere for months- this blue one is not the case.
But even standing OUTSIDE the car with the windows down in my garage I can smell it. This cant be "normal" but I am 2 for 2. Does anyone else have this smell? And does it go away?
Thanks again for everyone's input and assistance.

Inside the center console there are 2 USB ports, one has an icon of an iPhone. Plug into that one and go from there. Mercedes has a video online titled Apple CarPlay Setup Guide.

Congrats and many safe and happy miles!
