Should I Expect Problems?
The Owner manual states:
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer than
four weeks, the battery may be damaged by
exhaustive discharging.
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer than
six weeks, the vehicle may suffer damage as a
result of lack of use.”
The car (2019 SL450) was built Jul. 2018 and purchased new Oct. 2019 (approx. 16 months of sitting around).
Other than the battery discharging and likely losing its max capacity, what kind of damage can occur?

My ‘2019 SL 550 was 14 months old when I bought it and I am not worried about the battery. Same goes for my ‘2018 F-250 that has two batteries and was 12 months from production when I bought it. Most new car dealerships have a system where they have mobile chargers out in the lot and rotate constantly between vehicles. I automatically change batteries in my vehicles at five years and have never had any problems. Others may have different experiences......

I am getting ready to store mine for the winter, so it'll sit for about 4 months. I'll probably leave a trickle charger on it.
A salesperson told me that the top needs to be cycled down and up regularly too (once month I think he said). Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. I'd recommend raising and then lowering the suspension via the ABC system too.
