A dealer in Florida told my PPI inspector that they charge $300 for a map update. Shouldn't that be a lot closer to $100?

Is there any way to just buy the data from the dealership, have them throw it on a USB drive, and download it ourselves? I asked for a map update in the first 3 years of having my vehicle, but they denied any being available. I think this warrants a call to Mercedes Customer Service.

This what I found when trying to purchase a Nav update and install it myself.

I was able to negotiate a free update when I purchased the car last June. I don't think updates are needed every year. A three year cycle is OK with me.

Thank you, I'll see if I can purchase it and do it myself. I haven't had an update in 5 years. I was unaware that they were free and the dealer denied there being any updates.

Engine Running
I've ordered the update for my GLA250 via the https://mbnavupdate.com link but havre not yet received the USB stick. I notice in the instructions that the engine must be running the entire time of the update. That may be a trick to have a successful update.

When I did my update I started off with a battery charger charging the battery and the engine off. After approximately 15 minutes the command system shut down. Fortunately, I started the car and it resumed the update. My advice would be to do it with the engine running. I did it in the garage but driving should be fine also.

I have done this update twice. Get the engine running and do not drive it. The installation instructions are very clear

Hmm. Unfortunately NTFS is not an option in Apple's Disc Utility and I don't find an application for this on Apple's App Store. I did install and use Tuxera's Disc Manager to format the memory stick into NTFS but the disc is still not found or the MM Manager is hung up searching for it.
As you suggest, I'll either have to use a friend's Windows machine or rely on the auto download or the dealer installation. Thanks for your help.

Just had mine done (under 3 year new car warranty). I know the service manager well and he said it was 1.5 hours (via the usb port). He also said my next update would cost me and it would be £80-00.

When I took delivery on 5/26 the latest version was 14.0, and they were kind enough to to update the car's system to that level.

According to this website: https://mbnavupdate.com/product/merc...v=e4b09f3f8402, the latest update for my 2015 is a 2020 version. I now have the 2019 version so I'm going to pass on an update. Is it typical that the updates are 2 years behind?

Doing it yourself is a pain in the ***, and as I said, you're not going to save a lot. So, taking it to the dealer is probably a smart choice.

I had an old TomTom Satnav that I purchased in Australia and 7 years later used it to travel around New-Zealand, USA, Canada and Iceland. Never got lost using it without up-dates.
I really don’t see the point in worrying about or paying for the latest maps. Roads do not change that radically over the years and in a push there are all the facilities we have on our phones.
However, I am from a generation that learned to drive and read maps before Satnav was invented.

For me, modern navigation aids are important for traffic routing. And with CarPlay and Waze, I am informed of road hazards, traffic, and police speed traps. And yes, where I live, roads are changed a lot due to new community construction and the like.

I don’t need to update Comand every year with the availability Carplay, Waze, Google.
I’ve never found the MB “Traffic” any good. Maybe it is better in the USA but it was useless in Australia and here.
As indicated, I’ve driven all over the world and managed to get to where I needed to be without the latest version of electronic maps.
However, Satnav has saved me a lot of argument with my wife. In the days of paper maps she’d be navigating which led to several problems
1) she gets car sick looking at a map so didn’t look at it properly
2) she is not a good navigator.
Result : she’d guess where we had to turn, knowing that if it was wrong, I’d pull the car over and look at the map myself.
