Thank you all for your compliments. I paid $66,800 and the dealer shipped the car at their expense and certified it. It really pretty much looks new inside and out and was represented by them quite accurately. I think the deal was fair to both sides and considering the rarity of the options I am comfortable with the purchase I made. I'm very pleased with the color combination interior and exterior, it has the wheels I wanted. The one thing I was a little concerned about was the walnut trim but in real life it comes across less yellow and more subdued so it's fine.
DMV has all the paperwork so I probably will get plates in a week or so. I know there are other SL's around for less but probably not certified or from a MB dealer.
Beautiful find! I have a 2013 SL550 and am starting to look for a 2017. I think you got a good deal for such a heavily optioned car. My car also has the wood steering wheel (about a $1K option) and I'm hoping to find that on my next one as well.
What a crazy deal. As previously mentioned from the time I got delivery of the car it took nearly 8 days to get the paperwork from the dealer. DMV is not open for registrations here in NY; you need to either mail in the paperwork or drop it in a drop box at the nearest DMV. Fedex delivered everything just after 3PM on Monday, I dropped it along with the completed other docs at DMV at 4 pm and was told to expect my plates in about a week. To my surprise the plates came last Wednesday meaning DMV turned everything around in one day and US Post Office delivered in one day. So it worked out faster than I expected. I am very happy with this vehicle. So far it appears to operate flawlessly. The engine is butter smooth, incredibly powerful and sounds amazing. The transmission shifts beautifully and even with the run flats and 19 inch wheels the ride is ok. But I can tell non run flats would be much better. I do not know how much the ABC is helping the ride since i couldn't do a back to back comparison. I find the apple car play works great and sounds better than I thought but I do need to get the rear speakers louder. I found no fader control on the regular sound menu so will be researching this shortly. Very pleased with my purchase and glad I took the leap of faith buying over the internet. There are posts here that will show you how to activate the fader function, assuming your stereo is like my 2016 SL400 w/ Harmon Kardon system. It is done by going through a special menu (Engineer menu?) Someone here has posted step by step instructions and they worked for me.

Yes, it appears that engineering menu was removed on the facelift models (MY17 and forward).

AND, wouldn’t we all like to know WHY??? For all the adoration we heap upon the 3-Pointed Star, this company continues to make infuriating decisions. WHY did they not fix this sound system in 2013? Why did they leave it basically unimproved over all years of the R231 model run? Enquiring minds want to know.
I agree. I didn't even know I had a rear speaker until I read about it on this forum. The ability to activate it was a nice improvement. Why would Daimler install a speaker and not have it active? Doesn't make sense.
Did the same kind of deal with MB in Wilsonville here in FL last week...Just waiting for enclosed shipment to arrive..My SL looks almost identical (SL450 Selenite Grey/bengal red). In FL you can drive car with plates on transfer and paperwork of new car purchase plus insurance for 30 days...
