This got me thinking. Doesn't anybody like to talk about their cars?
Then it dawned on me Either...
A. Everyone is just enjoying their cars top-down driving through some beautiful scenery...
B. Have no technical problems with their cars that they need to discuss with others...
C. Both
Tongue-in-cheek of course but when the R230 was at the end of it's lifecycle, the forums were filled with countless mechanical, suspension and brake issues.
Granted, the R230 sold much better but even if adjusted for quantity there is no comparison. The R231 has now been sold for 8 years and this car one of the most solid Mercedes models I have seen in reliability.

It would appear that the R231’s do seem to be very well built and free from nagging issues that sometimes plague other brands/models. I know I don’t have many miles on mine, but she’s been rock solid. Thinking again about digging into that audio system.
Isn’t it interesting how the sun, during different times of day makes the Polar White look different?

Yeah, interesting forum. Go on LS460 and Audi A8 D4 forums and see the activity there, and, BTW, those cars are not less reliable cars than the R231 we drive....Even the S class forum is more active....
Yes seriously there’s a lot to be said for “B” and “C”. Reading the numerous ABC posts in the r230 forum nearly scared me away from adding it to my r231 build, but there is very little on that subject regarding actual problems (as opposed to opinion) in this forum. Also there just aren’t that many of us with SL sales being so small.
And many thanks for your action as moderator on that other thread the other day, it was much appreciated.

There are few SLs sold relative to almost all the other Mercedes models and most other manufacturers as well. Sales numbers dropped throughout it's life cycle. I was pleasantly surprised to find a fairly active owners forum when I bought our first SL last year. I hope the participation continues after Tennessee and Streamliner departure.

Indeed, but one would expect a true white to reflect whatever the ambient color temperature is. The color that really floored me in this respect was Cardinal Red/Hyacinth. It can go from beautiful to drab just depending on the angle of the sun.

All three of my SL’s have been red with the ‘17 and ‘19 being the Cardinal Red. I swear MB changed the formula between those years as they do not look the same to me. The ‘17 sometimes had a orangish hue in certain light whereas my ‘19 is more reddish.
Not many people buying a $100,000 2 seater. Of those people they do not buy the SL hence why the SL sales are low. This means MB doesn’t make many compared to other cars in the lineup. Not many SL buyers come to the forum. A shame as the R231 SL is a incredible car in every way.

Yep that is what I was thinking, colour cast from the light at that particular time of day (white balance).
