Exclamation Connecting Valentine1 radar detector in 2018 SL550

Has anyone used the USB 5V to 12V converter to install a radar detector that’s in the center console. The cigarette lighter in the 2018 SL550 is in such a bad position, you cannot close the console when you have the 12V conversion adapter plugged in. I saw a 5V to 12V adapter online and wanted to see if anyone ever tried something like that. That would allow me to close the center console!

Bad position for 12V adaptor in 2018 SL550!

Suggest you use the 12v socket in the left-side wall of the passenger footwell.

If you want to go nice and clean. And have some minor skills. There is plenty of power in the overhead console (where the sunglass holder is). You can purchase a small 12v to 5v transformer from Amazon for about $12. And then tap into the power in the over head and easily leave a pig tail hanging out for the radar detector. In my case I did it for a Front / Rear camera system. It's not that complicated, other than hitting the SOS button and chatting with the MBrace operator - there weren't any other surprises.

Sounds good. Which camera system did you use and how did you mount that. I identify with your comment about unintended discussions with the MBrace operator.
