A very long time. The days of having to replace mufflers and pipes every other year are over especially if you live in an area without a lot of snow and ice. We have a 12 year old Lexus and I was under it a couple weeks ago. The entirr exhaust system looks like it is only a few months old.
One caveat: If you have a habit of starting your car and letting it idle in the garage or driveway or only driving a mile or two and then shutting it off you can cause the exhaust system to deteriorate from the inside out due to the moisture not being expelled from the tailpipe because the engine is not up to proper operating temperature. This can lead to a big bill when you have to replace a catalytic converter.
