TPMS warning

Apparently the TPMS system is not reading from front left tire. Having never had this system on previous cars, what does it mean?

You can try to reset the tire pressure monitors in the instrument cluster settings but if the TPMS stopped reading it's likely a depleted battery. Since the battery is permanent, this means pulling off the wheel and tire and replace the TPMS. This is normal consumption and good life after 6 years.
You can buy these cheap online and have a tire shop do it or you can go to the dealer to have them do it.

Dealer will likely charge a couple hundred bucks for parts and labor (call first). The only benefit of using a dealer is the guarantee that the next sensor will work. They normally register automatically after a few minutes driving but I have had issues where the number had to be entered manually. That requires the proper software. Also if the TPMS is not good, they will swap it.

Thanks! I think I'll give the tire guys a crack at it before going to the dealer.

Come to think of it, maybe I'll get the part from the dealer and take that to the tire guys.

Update: I checked with the dealer and was quoted over $624 for the sensor, labor and taxes. Discretion being the better part of valor, I opted to give the local Firestone dealership a shot at it first. They did the entire job for $146.15. The new sensor is communicating fine with the system and we'll see if there are any glitches but looks good so far. Thanks for the tip Wolfman!

Wow, that was a bold markup from the dealer. I don't know why some dealers hope they can find a dummy to pay that significant markup. Our dealers here are quite competitive. Glad this worked out for you!

But the sensor from Firestone won’t have the MB logo on it! 😊

I try as much as possible to deal with a local independent who specializes in BMW and MB rather than go to the dealer. Unfortunately he is getting near retirement age and after that I am screwed. He charges less and has a stellar reputation.

Believe it or not I had a similar experience with my wife's 2009 RX. It had the original sensors so not surprising that they all started to fail about the same time. I called around and found out that Sam's Club does this type of work. I bought 4 new OEM sensors from Amazon and took them to Sam's Club. They replaced all 4 sensors, registered them and I was on my way for less than $100. This was over a year ago and all is well.

The dealers I checked with, one in Ft Pierce, FL and one in Melbourne, FL both wanted more than $200 for the sensor alone!

Personally I would only buy a quality sensor used by Mercedes; they are about $60-80 a piece. After all, its power performance over many years is what you rely on. Cheaper isn't better but there is no need for a rip-off...

I'd go with the Schrader, though I'm sure the others are probably fine as well...
